On Tim Bray shaking his butt, and the price of gas

You may have never heard of Reggaeton, a cultural mashup of hip hop, reggae and what I just think of as Puerto Rican beats, although you may well know that tune Gasolina by Daddy Yankee.

I just love this image of Tim Bray “cruising through the barrio” though.

He’s got the spirit of the music nailed too – its all about gas, the car, the beat, the low ride, and shaking your butt.
When I stopped to gas up the rental the song they were playing was too good to turn off so I cranked that sucker and entertained the whole gas station while I did my bit for the Saudi economy. A young dude in a good blue suit and haircut gassing his rental raised an eyebrow at the grey-bearded gringo honkey gettin’ down. As if I cared.
I wonder if he was listening to FULETEAME EL TANQUE (FILL UP MY GAS TANK) by Bimbo?

Predictions – this year we’ll see further mashups between Reggaeton, Baile Funk (more barrio music, this time from Rio) and Grime (the UK’s very own new quickshot bass music). Oh yeah- and the price of gas will go up even further.
