Check out all these people on iChat Bonjour, that&#8217;s the most I&#8217;ve seen at a conference:<\/p>\n<p class=\"pic\">\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/cote\/1341730873\/\" title=\"Photo Sharing\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1232\/1341730873_b5a8f90229_m.jpg\" width=\"93\" height=\"240\" alt=\"Bonjour at Lone Star Ruby Conference\" \/><\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>Right now, we&#8217;re getting a presentation from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lonestarrubyconf.com\/speakers\/james-edward-gray-ii\">James Edward Gray II about &#8220;Ruby as a Glue Language.&#8221;<\/a> Or, as I&#8217;d like to call it &#8220;don&#8217;t be afraid to shell out.&#8221; While the Java programmer in me instantly rebels against any notion of touching the underlying operating system &#8212; or otherwise breaking out of the safety blankie of the VM &#8212; treating your OS like just another piece of middleware, or simply a library, is certainly handy if you control the OS as much as the runtime you&#8217;re in.<\/p>\n<p>On the topic of the conference: this place is hella packed! I got here late so I&#8217;m with the people sitting along the wall instead of the nice round tables that fill the middle of the room.
