The truth is that consumer products are ‘new’ for a very brief moment when they are first removed from the packaging, but spend the great majority of their useful lives as ‘used’ products in the process of decay. Many welcome the breaking-in of products like a leather wallet or a pair of jeans as this wear can be aesthetically-pleasing. The Japanese have a term for this, “Wabi-sabi”. Wabi-sabi can be used to describe the aesthetically pleasing wear of an object as it decays over time. It’s a notion that embraces the transience of objects and celebrates the purity of the imperfect. Aging with dignity is a criteria designers should recognize in their efforts."

Power Systems Sales Jump 19 Percent in Q1

Announcing Two New Mobile Maps

Top Marginal Tax Rates 1916-2010 — VisualizingEconomics

Major Amazon Outage Ripples Across Web « Data Center Knowledge

Cloud Computing to the Max at Bechtel

Meraki: Enterprise 802.11n Wireless LAN
This looks real interesting, esp. this part: "Each AP is constantly monitored and optimized from the cloud, so the network automatically adapts to changing interference conditions."

Research: 75 percent believe IT projects are 'doomed'
"Seventy-five percent of respondents believe that their projects are either always or usually 'doomed right from the start.'"

Making time for IT planning: Advisory Board Q&A
"For the most part, I'd say that the words "strategic" and "IT" are rarely seen together. IT is seen as a rude utility by most businesses and therefore, is not given the time and money to focus on longer-term strategic planning. Instead, [the IT department] has to keep things up and running, respond to silly requests about email attachment size and focus on driving costs down. [Good businesses] look at IT as source for business differentiations. How can IT be used to compete in the marketplace, and not just save more money on the CFO's spreadsheet? Once the business starts asking IT to the table, IT can start [strategic] planning."

Asset management tools in the modern data center: Advisory Board Q&A

Nokia, Microsoft Reveal Details Of Their Deal While Nokia's Earnings Drop

Disclosure: see the RedMonk client list for clients mentioned.

Summer is virtually here in Austin.
