Here are some:<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/www.information-age.com\/channels\/business-applications\/news\/1263713\/sun-is-profitable-says-oracle.thtml\">It can&#8217;t have been <i>that<\/i> simple, right?<\/a><\/h2>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;Our estimate for<strong> the Sun business contribution income comes in at over $400 million for our first full quarter after the merger<\/strong>,&#8221; said Oracle president Safra Catz. &#8220;This compared to the loss in Sun\u2019s quarter ending June of last year when Sun was an independent company.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, Sun was disastrously loss making in the financial quarters preceeding its acquisition. In <strong>October 2008, the company reported a quarterly loss of $1.7 billion thanks to an acquisition write-down<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Oracle has instigated a number of measures<\/strong> to turn the Sun business around. <strong>One of these was to cut out the channel partners in its 4,000 most valuable customer engagements, instead selling to those customers directly<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/www.information-age.com\/channels\/data-centre-and-it-infrastructure\/news\/1263238\/red-hat-growth-gathering-pace-again.thtml\">Open Source Revenue &#8211; RedHat<\/a><\/h2>\n<blockquote><p>\nThe poster child for the commercial open source model <b>Red Hat today reported revenues of $209.1 million for the first quarter<\/b> of its new financial, <b>up 20%<\/b> from the same period of last year&#8230;. <b>Net profit for the quarter rose 30% to $24.1 million<\/b>.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theregister.co.uk\/2010\/06\/22\/redhat_q1_fiscal_2011_numbers\/\"><i>The Register<\/i> has more numbers and details<\/a>, like employee count, cash on hand, etc.<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theregister.co.uk\/2010\/06\/23\/eclipse_helios_release_train\/\">Hey, it&#8217;s a lot of work<\/a><\/h2>\n<blockquote><p>  <b>Helios spans 39 project teams<\/b>, with <b>490 committers<\/b> working on more than <b>33 million lines of code<\/b>. <b>Four years ago, the Callisto<\/b> release train coordinated <b>just 10 teams with 260 committers and seven million lines of code,<\/b> hailed in 2006 as &#8220;a major undertaking&#8221;.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>  <a href=\"http:\/\/moconews.net\/article\/419-apple-and-att-take-600000-pre-orders-for-iphone-4\/\">The Passion Lives<\/a><\/h2>\n<blockquote><p> Following yesterday\u2019s pre-order disaster for the iPhone 4, Apple has just announced that along with AT&amp;T and carrier partners outside of the US <b>it took pre-orders for more than 600,000 for the latest phone<\/b>. It was the largest number of pre-orders the company has ever taken in a single day, and according to Apple, far higher than they anticipated.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sramanamitra.com\/2010\/06\/16\/creative-bootstrapping-to-a-350m-exit-nimsoft-ceo-gary-read-part-1\/\">Getting to a $350M evaluation<\/a><\/h2>\n<blockquote>\n<p>SM: How did [Nimsoft&#8217;s] revenue ramp?<\/p>\n<p>GR: <strong>In 2006 we had $10 million, in 2007 we had $17 million, in 2008 it was $25 million, and in 2009 we had $32 million<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2>  <a href=\"http:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2010\/06\/13\/jives-new-features-and-management-finally-a-serious-enterprise-2-0-play\/\">Jive&#8217;s Social Business Revenue<\/a><\/h2>\n<blockquote><p>  <b>[Jive is] doing sales in the range of $75,000-$150,000 per company<\/b>, on average, but the dollar amount is increasing. He\u2019s <b>done ten $1 million deals and four of those came in the last two quarters<\/b>. The company <b>has 3,000 customers, 15 million users, and will end the year on a $100 million run-rate<\/b>. Considering that a few years ago <b>open source darlings like Jboss were valued at hundreds-of-millions of dollars when they were doing less than $50 million in revenue<\/b>, that\u2019s a decent software business.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/www.editorsweblog.org\/newsrooms_and_journalism\/2010\/06\/wired_ipad_magazine_sales_set_to_surpass.php\">iNewsstand<\/a><\/h2>\n<blockquote><p>  <b>After just nine days<\/b>, Cond\u00e9 Nast&#8217;s magazine <i>Wired<\/i> is reporting an astonishing feat: the sales of its iPad edition are set to surpass those of its print edition. <i>The New York Observer<\/i> reports that just a little over a week after its initial release<b>, the magazine&#8217;s iPad edition has already sold 79,000 copies<\/b>. Considering that <i><b>Wired&#8217;s<\/b><\/i> <b>newsstand sales average around 80,000 a month<\/b>, it seems safe to assume at this point that the sales of the iPad edition will soon surpass those of the print edition.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Now <a href=\"http:\/\/www.psfk.com\/2010\/06\/gourmet-magazine-reincarnated-as-an-app.html\">they&#8217;re up to &#8220;more than 90,000&#8221; copies and launching a Gourmet iPad app<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.developer.com\/features\/article.php\/3886381\/Eclipse-Community-Survey-Shows-Open-Source-Dev-Trends.htm\">Developing Desktops<\/a><\/h2>\n<blockquote><p>\nFor the 2010 [Eclipse community] report, <b>32.7 percent of survey respondents reported that they used Linux as their development operating system<\/b>. The 2010 figure is an <b>increase over the 2009 study when 26.9 percent<\/b> of respondents identified Linux as their development platform operating system of choice.
