Hare are some:<\/p>\n<h2>Last week in conferences by attendee estimates<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>SAP Sapphire Now &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/sapphirenow.blogs-sap.com\/2010\/05\/20\/facts-and-figures-about-sapphire-now\/\"><strong>16,000 attendees<\/strong>, between Orlando and Frankfurt<\/a>. Also, see <a href=\"http:\/\/greenmonk.net\/sustainable-sap\/\">Tom Raftery&#8217;s report on Sustainablity at\/from SAP<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>CA World &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/story\/ca-world-2010-to-offer-attendees-first-look-at-innovative-solutions-for-optimizing-it-from-the-mainframe-to-the-cloud-2010-05-10?reflink=MW_news_stmp\"><strong>7,000 attendees<\/strong><\/a>. And: check out <a href=\"http:\/\/www.redmonk.com\/cote\/2010\/05\/17\/legacycloud\/\">part one of my CA World coverage<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Google I\/O: <a href=\"http:\/\/voices.washingtonpost.com\/fasterforward\/2010\/05\/live-blogging_googles_news.html\"><strong>5,000 attendees<\/strong><\/a>, or <a href=\"http:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2010\/05\/22\/googles-gift-already-on-resale-sprints-htc-evo-4g-pops-up-on-ebay-craigslist\/\"><strong>maybe 4,000<\/strong><\/a>.\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/www.csc.com\/newsroom\/press_releases\/46534-csc_reports_fourth_quarter_results\">Keeping tabs on those billion dollar revenue guys you don&#8217;t think about enough<\/a><\/h2>\n<blockquote>\n<p>For the full year [of <b>2009], [CSC&#8217;s] revenue was $16.1 billion (compared to $16.7 billion for the previous year)<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>The breakdown of the <b>$4.3 billion of new business awards in the [fourth quarter fiscal 2009]<\/b> by our three lines of business is as follows: <b>North American Public Sector (NPS) contributed $1.4 billion ($7.1 billion for the full year)<\/b>, <b>Business Solutions and Services (BSS) reported $0.8 billion ($3.4 billion for the full year)<\/b>, and <b>Managed Services Sector (MSS) closed $2.1 billion of new business ($8.7 billion for the full year)<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>For fiscal year 2011, the company <b>anticipates bookings in excess of $18 billion<\/b>, <b>revenue in the range of $16.8 billion to $17.2 billion (an increase of 4% to 7%) and operating margin between 9% and 9.25%<\/b>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/www.informationweek.com\/news\/government\/cloud-saas\/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=224701861&amp;subSection=News\">Cloud Savings, one estimate<\/a><\/h2>\n<blockquote><p>\n  The recovery board <b>expects to save about $750,000 over the next two years &#8212; $334,000 this year and $420,000 in 2011 &#8212; by running<\/b> <a href=\"http:\/\/Recovery.gov\/\"><b>Recovery.gov<\/b><\/a> <b>on [Amazon] EC2<\/b>. This represents <b>about 10% of the total $7.5 million the board has spent overall on the site so far<\/b>, including development costs. &#8220;Significantly&#8221; more savings are expected over the long term, according to the recovery board.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>Mainframe-land: What types of application do you host on-premise?<\/h2>\n<p class=\"pic\">\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/cote\/4618725313\/\" title=\"EMA on-prem usage survey at 5,000+ people companies - CA World by cote, on Flickr\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4024\/4618725313_2f498a773e.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"309\" alt=\"EMA on-prem usage survey at 5,000+ people companies - CA World\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>From a CA World 2010 press Q&amp;A, featuring some research from EMA answering the question (my wording) how much of your applications still need mainframes?:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Mainframe only &#8211; 67%<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Distributed\/mainframe hybrid &#8211; 60%<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Just distributed &#8211; 52%<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For those not in raised-floor land, &#8220;distributed&#8221; means &#8220;not mainframe&#8221; &#8211; x86 and UNIX hoopla, man.<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/www.infoworld.com\/d\/the-industry-standard\/ibm-survey-ceos-say-they-cant-handle-growing-business-complexity-173\">With budgets back, IT spend-desire<\/a><\/h2>\n<blockquote><p>\n  <b>Ninety-five percent of top-performing organizations [out of 1,541 CEOs, general managers, and senior public sector leaders from 60 countries and 33 industries worldwide surveyed by IBM] cited getting closer to customers as their most important strategic initiative for the next five years<\/b>, using Web, interactive, and social media channels to rethink engagements with customers and citizens\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tuaw.com\/2010\/05\/14\/26-of-web-video-is-ready-for-the-ipad\/\">The never-ending stream of Flash vs. H.264 video estimates<\/a><\/h2>\n<blockquote><p>\n  <b>26% of the video on the Web is iPad-ready<\/b>, according to Mefeedia, a firm that supposedly monitors online video around the Internet. You may think that&#8217;s low (<b>that means 74% of the web can&#8217;t be seen on the iPad<\/b>), but that number actually represents a good amount of growth, as <b>just a scant few months ago, only 10% of Web video was iPad-accessible, or encoded in H.264 or HTML 5, not Flash<\/b>.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/www.zdnet.com\/blog\/cell-phones\/google-android-smacks-down-windows-mobile-in-latest-gartner-data\/3829\">It&#8217;s too easy to forget that Nokia is still #1<\/a><\/h2>\n<blockquote><p>\n  The good news for Google\u2019s Android operating system and devices continues and as the latest Gartner research data shows <b>Android has now surpassed Microsoft\u2019s Windows Mobile operating system and moved into fourth place with 9.6 percent of market share<\/b>. <b>Symbian continues to dominate the worldwide smartphone market with 44.3 percent of market share<\/b> with <b>RIM in second at 19.4<\/b> and <b>Apple\u2019s iPhone OS in third with 15.4<\/b>. <b>Microsoft moves down to fifth behind Android with 6.8 percent<\/b> of market share.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2010\/05\/24\/revealed-google-keeps-less-than-half-of-adsense-revenue\/\">Google&#8217;s Cut<\/a><\/h2>\n<blockquote><p>\nThe majority of AdSense publishers are using the content product, says Google. <strong>Publishers apparently earn a 68% revenue share worldwide<\/strong>, meaning <strong>Google pays 68% of the revenue that they collect from advertisers<\/strong> [and keep 32%].\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ambysoft.com\/surveys\/stateOfITUnion200907.html\">Agile is pretty much mainstream<\/a><\/h2>\n<blockquote><p>\n  <b>76% that they had development teams which had adopted agile techniques<\/b>. Of the organizations that have adopted agile techniques, <b>on average 44% of their projects are applying agile techniques<\/b>.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Granted, these are from a July 2009 survey of 125 folks, but interesting nonetheless. Link via Israel Gat&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/theagileexecutive.com\/2010\/04\/12\/preface-from-the-concise-executive-guide-to-agile\/\">The Concise Executive Guide to Agile<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bmc.com\/news\/press-releases\/2010\/bnc-software-exceeds-100-million-in-cloud-foundation-deals.html\">I think they mean &#8220;virtualization&#8221;<\/a><\/h2>\n<blockquote><p>\n  BMC Software today announced that it <b>has passed the $100 million mark in highly strategic &#8220;cloud foundation&#8221; deals where virtualization and computing management capabilities were the key element in the customer\u2019s final selection<\/b>.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/smoothspan.wordpress.com\/2010\/05\/17\/amazon-stealing-the-cloud\/\">What&#8217;s Running in the Cloud<\/a><\/h2>\n<p class=\"pic\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/cote\/4604296792\/\" title=\"Austin Skyline by cote, on Flickr\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3384\/4604296792_9dfda1b71b.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"500\" alt=\"Austin Skyline\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\n  A ranked list of apps moving into the Cloud &#8211; <b>Web Conferencing and Salesforce Automation were #1 and #2<\/b>. No surprise.&nbsp;&nbsp;<b>Accounting and Billing were #3<\/b>, which I found a big surprise, but it only makes sense, especially for billing.&nbsp;&nbsp; This was one of the fastest growing categories as well. A lot of discussion among folks I talk to has centered around the idea that particularly accounting might be the last to go because there is little value add, the data is sensitive, yada, yada.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/smoothspan.wordpress.com\/2010\/05\/17\/amazon-stealing-the-cloud\/\">rest of Bob&#8217;s post<\/a> is great &#8211; he rounds-up a lot of positive Amazon cloud usage and numbers.<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pitchengine.com\/free-release.php?id=64746\">The Web App IDE Beat<\/a><\/h2>\n<blockquote><p>\n  Ext JS\u2014the company that enables application developers to build rich, sustainable web applications faster than ever\u2014announced that <b>Ext Designer has hit 75,000 installs since its launch less than two months ago<\/b>. The Ext JS rapid-prototyping tool for JavaScript application development is proving popular with user-interface and user-experience specialists around the world who want highly functional and visually appealing JavaScript web apps that deliver a uniform experience across different platforms and browsers.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/www.busmanagement.com\/news\/the-worlds-leading-companies\/\">Top 2,000 Companies, World-wide<\/a><\/h2>\n<blockquote>\n<p>This year, the following countries gained the most ground: mainland <b>China (113 members)<\/b>, <b>India (56 members)<\/b> and <b>Canada (62 members)<\/b>. Even Oman and Lebanon are now Global 2000 members. Also gaining a significant presence on the Forbes list this year are corporations from Ireland, South Africa and Sweden.<\/p>\n<p>In total the <b>Global 2000 companies now account for $30 trillion in revenues, $1.4 trillion in profits, $124 trillion in assets and $31 trillion in market value<\/b>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><b>Disclosure:<\/b> CA paid my travel and hotel for CA World, Adobe is a client.
