Here’s the nugget:<\/p>\n

[T]his morning I<\/a> talked to one
\nof the leaders within this workgroup who told me that “The Open
\nManagement Consortium didn’t look like it had any members that would
\nhave been interested in the project” and that “The OMC itself doesn’t
\nlook like it needs to be involved in projects like this…it’s not a
\ncompany”. That said, here is the stated goal of the project:<\/p>\n

The mission of the proposed COSMOS Project (COmmunity Systems
\nManagement Open Source) is to create a standard tools platform upon
\nwhich software developers can create inter-operable system management
\ntools and plug-ins.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

So I ask, does the previous statement hold true? Share your feelings
\non this list. Do you think the OMC should be involved? Should
\nindividual projects like Nagios? Also, what about projects like
\nopenNMS that while not affiliated with the OMC obviously have a
\nleading market position and very relevant project to this new project?
\nAlso, if this project is so important, and needs to be open source,
\nhow come none of the companies involved strongly with open source
\nprojects?<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

While that may seem a bit glum, my money is on the two groups resolving the issue. Or, if not, clarifying what the role of each is. The only negative outcome would be the low hum or nothing…and then it’s back to SNMP and MIBs<\/a> ;><\/p>\n
