{"id":270,"date":"2006-07-28T12:02:49","date_gmt":"2006-07-28T19:02:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.redmonk.com\/cote\/wp\/?p=270"},"modified":"2006-07-28T12:02:49","modified_gmt":"2006-07-28T19:02:49","slug":"sysadmin-of-the-year-win-a-macbook","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/redmonk.com\/cote\/2006\/07\/28\/sysadmin-of-the-year-win-a-macbook\/","title":{"rendered":"SysAdmin of the Year: Win a MacBook"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.redmonk.com\/jgovernor\/archives\/001973.html\">James posted about the SysAdmin of the year context as well<\/a>, but as I like seeing the people from my roots &#8212; developers and tech-heads &#8212; getting their due, I wanted to post a pointer to it too.<\/p>\n<p>So, here is the deal:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You can nominate your neighborhood sysadmin by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sysadminoftheyear.com\/index.php\/saoty_nominate\">filling out a small form<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>A panel of judges will decide who wins.<\/li>\n<li>The prized are:\n<ul>\n<li>One Grand Prize winner will receive a $2,500 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.redmonk.com\/cote\/archives\/2006\/05\/splunk_and_ca_u.html\">Splunk<\/a> Professional license and an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. to attend the Large Installation System Administration (LISA) Conference December 3-7, 2006.<\/li>\n<li>A First Prize winner will receive an Apple MacBook.<\/li>\n<li>Runners Up &#8211; Three lucky individuals will receive $2,500 Splunk Professional licenses.<\/li>\n<li>Honorable Mentions &#8211; Five individuals will receive a case of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bawls.com\/\">Bawls soda<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>First 2500 nominees receive a free Sysadmin of the Year t-shirt.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As you can guess, I&#8217;m but unclear on why the MacBook is the &#8220;second place&#8221; prize \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n<p>Kidding aside, if there&#8217;s one thing my fellow tech-heads are bad at, it&#8217;s using self-promotion as a long-term tool to get things done. Awards, like this, are a great way to do it. So, if I were you, and you like your sysadmin(s), I&#8217;d go nominate them.
