{"id":2276,"date":"2009-02-18T14:35:10","date_gmt":"2009-02-18T19:35:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.redmonk.com\/cote\/2009\/02\/18\/laurenstates\/"},"modified":"2009-02-18T14:35:10","modified_gmt":"2009-02-18T19:35:10","slug":"laurenstates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/redmonk.com\/cote\/2009\/02\/18\/laurenstates\/","title":{"rendered":"Lauren States on Cloud Computing &#8211; Pulse 2009"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"video embed\">\n<p>While I was at <a href=\"http:\/\/www-01.ibm.com\/software\/tivoli\/pulse\/\">IBM Pulse<\/a> this year, I had the chance to sit down with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.forbes.com\/2008\/11\/06\/030.html\">Lauren States<\/a> who&#8217;s title describes what she does quiet well: Vice President Cloud Computing for IBM&#8217;s Software Group.<\/p>\n<p>In this brief discussion, we cover several topics:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pulse 2009 cloud related product and consulting announcements<\/li>\n<li>Does <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Conway%27s_Law\">Conway&#8217;s Law<\/a> apply to cloud setups?<\/li>\n<li>Mixing public and private clouds &#8211; one us it for spilling over peak workload to public clouds &#8211; use often begins with testing and QA and spreads closer to production deployments.<\/li>\n<li>The decision process Lauren has seen companies go through around public vs. private clouds.<\/li>\n<li>What types of applications &#8211; or &#8220;work-loads,&#8221; even &#8211; has Lauren seen running on clouds?
