We signed up Hyperic<\/a> yesterday as a RedMonk customer<\/a>, finally filling out the once so-called “Little 4” (there’s only 3 of them now) along-side Zenoss<\/a> and Groundwork Open Source<\/a>. I love working with open source driven IT management companies like these as they’re one of the primary areas that I find innovation occurring in the “lower levels” of the IT management space, that stratum where I got my start in the IT management world while at BMC<\/a>. For example, early on Hyperic was one of the first IT management products to offer RSS feeds<\/a>.<\/p>\n I’ve talked with the Hyperic team almost since joining RedMonk and I’ve always enjoyed talking with Javier<\/a>, Stacey<\/a>, and others. Check out the video above from JavaOne 2007, for example.<\/p>\n Also, in our kick-off call with Hyperic we learned something else exciting: long-time RedMonk friend Mike Olson <\/a> is working with them (on a consulting basis). RedMonk started working with Mike before my time at RedMonk when at Sleepycat, but then after Sleepycat was acquired by Oracle I has to the chance to work with him before he departed<\/a>.
