I’m curious about your comment on the 1PB sort at Google. In what way would Google be expected to be “further ahead”? Those numbers seem impressive enough to me. I don’t think this is their first foray into map/reduce sorting, just their most recent. The numbers are even more impressive considering that they’re writing data in triplicate.
