I didn’t intend to imply that there’s no legal gray area wrt VMware and the GPL. There’s ambiguity around binary blobs in general. But, in practice, they’ve been widely accepted or at least tolerated by essentially all of the relevant “powers that be.” (Linus, SFLC, etc.)
