I was pretty down on the keyboard at first also. But in a weird way, I felt like it got better the less I tried to care, and to meticulously tap and just went for it. Was I just forgiving? Or was the iPhone learning me? Who knows...

I still say it's the coolest device I have owned.

Personally, I am waiting for 3G before I switch to the iPhone. I use a WM5 device on Verizon now so the 3G capability is important to me.

Since I don't have an iPhone yet, I haven't tried the following technique for making your own ringtone without GarageBand so I can't claim success but CNET is usually reliable.

Have you used the nokia n810/n800?

My experience in the iphone vs nokia n800 is that it is similar to apple vs pc way back in the day. Apple svelte and sexy. Nokia a bit clunkly - but much less proprietary with more functionality and allows you to leverage your existing 3G phone via bluetooth.

The iphone/ipod touch interface is much sweeter though - in particular the zoom function and overall feel of the thing.

iphone/ipod touch isn't a great reader though. No pdf support (key for me) limited flash support/skype etc.

n800 is really cheap too...

I'd be willing to bet that the headset jack on the iPhone is the way it is not due to greed but due to aesthetics. Mounting the headset jack so that the outlet was flush with the case would have been ugly, so Apple recessed it, in spite of the fact that it prevents people from using their favorite headsets with the iPhone.

I think the gist of the review is spot on -- I don't care how the iPhone stacks up feature-wise with other mobile devices, it makes all of the ones I've used feel primitive.
