The Five Year Thank You Plan

According to our incorporation paperwork, RedMonk’s five year birthday is yet two Sundays away. But practically speaking, it was this same time five years ago that saw James and I embark on the journey that brought us – and, if we’re doing anything at all correctly, you – RedMonk.

It’s true that I have a great many things to be thankful for. A supportive family, patient friends, summers in mosquitoland, a fierce and vicious cat. More than anyone could reasonably hope for, in other words.

But at this juncture, I’m most acutely aware of the chance that James took on me, and that we took collectively all those years ago. As anyone who knows the two us can attest, James and I find ourselves on the opposites ends of just about all issues save those that really matter. In spite of, or perhaps because of that, the resulting dialectic is something I wouldn’t trade for anything, any more than I’d trade the past five years.

So before we at RedMonk put our heads together and see if we can cook up a Five Year Birthday Bash worthy of all of you – with beer, of course – I wanted to take a moment and say thanks to James and whatever agency has put me on this path.

No complaints.

Congratulations to RedMonk, a group that has influenced me greatly. Heck, I wouldn’t even have been reading or writing blogs without you guys.

So what don’t you agree on?
