i think the real question is how open will Facebook be forced to be? Facebook forced LinkedIn into an API, and now in turn will be forced to respond
-
lots of folks have predicted this for some time, and while i remain skeptical for the near term as folks i know continue to snap up Macs, it’s worth seriously thinking about
-
yet another reason that grandiose predictions aren’t usually my thing. Gibson’s right, as is Drucker.
-
“They considered adopting apt and decided they could build something better; it’s called IPS.” – i have concerns about this, notably on the resource and package formatting fronts, but will withold judgement. also, no sympathy for the bash haters.
-
“We’re seeing calls to revoke the commit rights of individuals who implement something that a community members doesn’t like…This is chaos of the worst kind and a sign that people don’t trust the system.” – at last, a sane take. democracy run amok.
-
interesting news. FYI, this bit – “Red Hat will have full access to the OpenJDK code base” – is intended to mean that RHAT has the ability to contribute back (not commit rights, yet). the code is still open for all comers.
-
“Because these innovations and differentiated features can be kept proprietary, manufacturers and mobile operators are protected from the ‘viral infection’ problem often associated with other licenses.” – the use of viral is a major faux pas.

build your vocabulary, generate free food. decent way to kill a few minutes.

bios level virtualization. i’m all for it if it speeds startup time.
