Mission Accomplished

On multiple fronts. First, the weather pulled a total 180 in the 2 and a half days I was gone. When I got to the airport Monday afternoon, it was in the low 50’s and raining. Hard. Today? High 60’s, bright sun. So that part’s good.

Also good was my successful defense of a traffic ticket. For reasons that only they can fathom, the City of Englewood, Colorado seems to think it’s a great idea – rather than a complete waste of everyone’s time – to haul everyday speeding offenders into court to defend themselves. So yesterday morning I was ordered to appear because I had the temerity to exceed 50 miles an hour on a six lane thoroughfare. Oh, the horrors.

While the judge was very personable and quite friendly, and the prosecutor had generously agreed in advance to knock down my ticket to a 2 point “unsafe vehicle” ticket because of a spotless driving record (in Colorado, anyway), I cannot grasp the mindset that says court is the appropriate venue for this type of offense. I would have thought they had better things to do with their time, but what do I know.

On the less positive has been the fact that the Sox haven’t won since I left for Denver. Now let us never speak of that again.

Anyway, I’m back in town only briefly, as I’ll be in the office today and tomorrow, but am out at the crack of dawn Monday morning to join the Rational folks at their conference down in Orlando (I know, June in Orlando, but what can you do?).

Look for a post on Project Indiana Q&A sometime later today, and one of a couple of subjects tomorrow.

  1. Lawyers have all the advantage in most traffic courts. It’s not uncommon to walk out with a parking ticket. For the rest – traffic court is simply a big donation box that the city uses to fund more police cars that just pull you over again for another ticket…
