Dad Makes Partner

Because my Dad – better known as the oldest blogger on Eph Planet – is pathologically averse to giving himself any credit whatsoever, it usually falls on the rest of us to champion his accomplishments. Fortunately, in this case, we have the kind assistance of the Wall Street Journal; or at least the eastern edition of the paper, as the version out here in Denver didn’t run the ad. But no matter. As the paper will confirm for you, my Dad was recently named partner at Kellogg Capital.

After a career spent on Wall Street, this accomplishment was both a long time coming and well deserved. While the news is obviously good and I’m proud of him for it, however, I’m prouder still of the way he’s conducted himself over the years. My Dad is that rarest of Wall Street types: a good man who does the right thing. Whether that’s championing the cause of women and minorities on the Exchanges, giving opportunities to the most qualified as opposed to the best connected, or refusing to take the easy ways out that so many in that industry succumb to, he’s remained true to himself in an environment that can corrupt even the best of us.

He’s never going to be the richest man on The Street, nor (certainly) the best dressed, but he’s someone we can all be proud of. And that’s a much finer and more difficult accomplishment, in my opinion.

Congrats, Dad. And Mom, because Dad couldn’t have gotten here on his own.

  4. Anne: thanks much. but trust me – my brother’s the one who’s like my Dad. i joke w/ my parents frequently that i must be adopted, different as i am šŸ˜‰

Mom: Nick’s not strong – i could take him easily.

James: šŸ˜‰ dunno that we could get flip-flops wide enough for him; Dad’s got these absurdly wide feet. no idea how he was fast enough to play forward in soccer, but he had more speed than either me or my brother.
