Forgot to say a big public thank you to Cambridge’s Hotel Marlowe. Not only did they allow me to check in straight off my red eye this morning with no hassle whatsoever (quite the contrary, the guy working the desk was very helpful), once I checked into the room I was surprised to discover that they provide free wireless for their customers. It’s a small thing, but an important thing.
The Royal Sonesta, my usual home while working in Cambridge, has rooms with better views – but I get those only rarely anyhow. The experience I’ve had @ the Marlowe so far might yet win me over, especially considering that the last time I tried to check in early at the Sonesta they wanted to apply an extra half day’s rate.

Did you get one of the safari rooms? Or are they all like that?
I think they’re all that way (read: really, really weird).
I’ve stayed there twice, and gotten the exotica in my room both times. The bar is pretty nice, as hotel bars go.
interesting. haven’t seen the bar quite yet – maybe hit it on the way out of here, as i’ll have a bit of time to kill.
dude, no comparison. Even though they got that safari thing going, Marlose is twice the hotel Sonesta ever was.
A few of us at Lotus fought hard to get the Marlowe on the IBM Hotel list a few years ago, and we’ve never looked back. They’re 100% classy, even when they pre-opened and still were working out the bugs. And Bambara makes a great burger and martini (which can be enjoyed together or separately).
