You are allowed laptops on flights in the UK again. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4789593.stm

I think our corporate policy for employees expressly prohibits us from checking our laptops… I wonder how that would play out.

I checked a laptop one a few years back… the hard drive crashed 3 days later. Never again.

James: yup, that is good news, but the trending here is not. more and more things are being prohibited, and i don’t think it’s a stretch to say that it’s just a matter of time until things like laptops are prohibited as well. the only good news there is that biz travellers will absolutely freak, and the airlines can’t really afford to lose their business.

Mike: i think it would play out in a lot less travel, which might be good for you and me but probably bad for the airlines and dozens if not hundreds of economies just in the states.

or at least, that’s what i’m hoping the conclusion is, b/c like you i’m just not checking my laptop. not happening.

Is that sad? I’d rather just not travel than travel without a laptop???

I don’t think the airlines would let it get to that point here. It would cripple business travel which I thought accounted for something like 80% of airline revenues… and besides they just got WiFi on some planes…

Mike: it may be, but i’m the same way.

as for the airlines, i tend to agree. but people do weird things in the name of ’security.’
