Sorry to hear that Flash 8 is preventing you from trying TiwyWiki. I'm working on support for older Flash platforms, but it's a pain so far.
I'm also planning to release a screencast, which may give you a feel of the application, in the meanwhile.

I totally agree that sync is the difficult part. I don't think it's been solved in a generic way in the heavy client world (C++, C#, Java apps)...

If there was such a framework or algorithm, I'm pretty sure we could integrate it in JavaDB or port it to javascript or flash.

Also, it's not just a question of synching and merging the data, but there is a big usability aspect to synching, for example letting the user visualize and manually resolve conflicts.

JavaDB (based on Apache Derby) is attractive due to the fact that you can interact with it directly from javascript if you wanted to - so, its purpose is not just to save some browser's metadata but also let web applications benefit from a secure and local storage to enhance their web offering and at the end the user's web experience...(i.e. offline webapps, etc)...

Synchronization is an important aspect, which we used to have back at Cloudscape in the early days ;) - completely agree with you Stephen.
