thanks for the suggestions, Alex. i checked out Spring, and i think to some extent you're correct - SWiK is serving as an interesting composite application blending data, downloads and feeds from a variety of sources. i should have been more clear that i did grok the diff b/twn project and tag pages, but either way your examples are good.

i'll play around with some of the tag relations, and either way look forward to early and often releases ;)

Hey, Thanks :)

A lot of your criticism is spot on, in terms of what we have so far isn't all valuable yet to the open source enthusiast per se.

We aimed broad and started this project in the spirit that everyone was invited to this party. We're out to make a useful resource for anyone who is interested in using open source software.

I think you might find helpful things if you dig a bit deeper into Swik though:

You can collaborate with other people to build a RSS-subscribable custom news page around an open source project

Try navigating tags and related tags you might find some cool projects you didnt' know existed

Check out some of the more established projects like Spring http://swik.net/project/spring

Or some articles like Keeping MySQL Secure http://swik.net/project/MySQL/Documentation/MySQL+Security

A lot of your specific ideas about usability are well taken, it's definitely an area to watch for improvements.

Massive improvements are planned for Swik, we are following in the philosophy of 'Release Early, Release Often'. I'd stay tuned to Swik, this release is definitely the tip of the Iceberg.

Users can give us feedback on what features they want out of Swik at http://swik.net/project/swik/Community/Comments
