It looks as if some of the speculation around Gmail finally being launched as an open (non-invite) service might be correct, as I just received the following invite to a Yahoo account I hold:

The funny part of this is that that Yahoo account is automatically forwarded into my Gmail account, as I managed to finagle a Gmail a while ago.

Or maybe not, with Google you never know. It could also just be the first of their Beta services ending the Beta. Who knows.

tough to say, i agree. it's also entirely possible, i think, that it's opened to the public but still tagged with a Beta label. what that label means these days is a whole nother can of worms, however 😉
