Gillmor Gang This Week

To borrow a line from Adam Bosworth, I felt a bit out of place as a guest on the Gillmor Gang today, given that the last few shows I listened to featured smarter and more august speakers like Adam himself, Jonathan Schwartz and Robert Scoble. And while I’m not sure I had any particularly brilliant insights, it was a lot of fun. The discussion was fairly broad reaching, but one of the main themes was RSS and the business models behind it. The other guest, Rafat Ali (the man behind paidcontent.org) had some good insights there, and I was able to discuss some of RedMonk’s thoughts on what RSS means to us and our audiences.

Thanks to Steve and Jon for the invite, even if I do have a few reservations about the medium 😉

  1. When are you and James going to start doing a RedMonk podcast? I'm sure you guys talk on the phone, if not in person, about RedMonk stuff all the time right? Just hook up a tape recorder to at some of those phone calls, or click "record" on your laptop when you're together, and shoot off an MP3 in your RSS feed.

After listening to you on the Gillmor Gange, I think you guys would have plenty of content.

  2. well, i don't know that i quite have the voice for radio, but i'm sure James could carry me for a half hour or so.

i'll look into it – and there may be a way that we could simply Skype each other, and then just record the line out using Audacity or Total Recorder or something.

the first step, of course, is to make sure that we have something interesting to talk about. content we have, but interesting content, that's a bit more problematic 😉
