Out of Christmas Shopping Ideas?

Ok, I’ll be clear up front that this is little more than an entry pimping Maine businesses, but since I’ve found them to be a valuable resource in years past, and it might be a rare opportunity to get some of you up my way for a meet up, I thought it warranted a mention.

For any of the Boston area readers – or those of you who will be passing through between now and the 25th – I suggest a quick trip to the outlets in Freeport. It’s been the savior of many a Christmas for me in years past, so for any of you still desperately searching for gifts it might be a good option. They’ve got outlets for everyone – Brooks Brothers, Cole Haan, Gap, J Crew, North Face, Patagonia, Polo, Timberland, etc, etc – plus it’s home to LL Bean’s massive store [1].

Drivetime from Boston is around 2 hrs or a little over (Rt 1N – I-95N – I-295N), depending on how much you speed, and if you want to stretch your legs after a day of shopping, you can hit Bradbury Mountain (it’s not really a mountain at all) as I did this weekend.

If any of you make it up this way, drop me a line and – schedule permitting – I’ll hop down to meet up.

[1] tecosystems trivia: bonus points if anyone can name the one store on the list that the bulk of my personal attire comes from. It’s been linked to once previously, I believe. Tough one.

  1. me and nat were thinking about trying to make one quick visit to NY before Christmas. maybe we shd come to Boston and Maine instead… freeport sounds cool

my money is one brooks brothers but i probably know you better than most–on the other hand i rarely see you in person so why knows!

  2. hahaha – i can just see nat's reaction:

"hi honey, remember how we were going to go shopping on madison ave? yeah, we're now going to rural ME instead, it's cool." 🙂

as for brooks brothers, not a prayer. i wear that for work b/c i have to, but won't be caught in it outside conferences.

  3. My guess would be Patagonia… Rural Maine… environmental-minded guy…. Smart money is on Patagonia.

  4. ok, the last poster did cheat a bit by having access to inside information concerning my attire, but he’s correct. Patagonia all the way.
