So, if developers are living in the future and they reject the permission culture, is that where things are going to go with the permission-based web for users as well?

Maybe the problem is that you can't make a single decision about what data you're willing to share with what categories of entities. Instead you're stuck going through a million dialogs every time you want to share the same info with yet another social network.

Acunu is supporting Cassandra users, and has been for a while in Europe, but our main business is tools and run-time for developers building very high-velocity real-time analytics applications on top of Cassandra.

We used to ship our own storage management layer for Cassandra, but don't need to now, because we donated the key part of it - Virtual Nodes - to Cassandra 1.2

It will be very interesting to see what IBM releases in the next few years. Unlike Apple, they are focused squarely on enterprise and can make huge wins by implementing best practices already learned in the consumer space. They could become innovators again if they learn how to conduct and use user research.

Yes, me! I've met more CEOs and CIOs than this lot put together. I have interviewed the people who wrote Unix -- yes, the original one at Bell Labs, not the sloppy Linus T copy; I've met James Gosling four times (once when he didn't have a beard); I know what two-phase commit is and I taught myself guitar. And I have played harmonica with Lembit Opik. Beat that!
