Thomas Otter’s Best Ever Post – On Ubuntu Culture and Story Telling

Share via Twitter Share via Facebook Share via Linkedin Share via Reddit

I just finished re-reading Thomas Otter’s post about storytelling. Yuh! He makes an amazing point about story-telling – a sorely neglected art in our oh so “advanced” Western companies. Markets are conversations but stories tell us how to live.

“We read a lot about the competitive advantages of India, China, London or the Valley. Yet African storytelling and community could teach Western Europe and the US a lot more about social media, blogging and the cluetrain than we realise. Social media isn’t really about wikis and blogs, it is about telling stories and listening to them.”

Go read it and watch the video content. You will be enriched. When we formed RedMonk we set out to focus on stories. We’re still doing that. If Thomas is right SAP should probably hire his wife. She is the master storyteller of the family.
