Why Are Last.fm charts out of date?

dorktunes’s Charts – Last.fm

I am quite confused about the fact the last.fm isn’t reporting on last week’s music figures for the RedMonk music sharing station dorktunes. Even if it was a batch operation- isn’t that what the weekend is for? Very strange. It will be interesting to see when it updates, so we can look at how the experiment is going.

Oh yeah. I also want to see last.fm blogging. Its bad enough eMusic doesn’t. But Last.fm too. What is up with you people? Last.fm’s “new” section has been updated 4 times this year. Give. me. a. break.

If you actually reached out to evangelists like me and Fred your buzz building skills would be unstoppable (dont follow link if profanity offends) . You are forcing your customer evangelists to make all the running. That’s not right. Use blogs-close some loops, people.

Learn from some other Web 2.0 players and get your blogs started up. Your services are wicked – now step up to more customer collaboration. Do you even track what bloggers say about you? Last.fm has never commented on anything I have put forward, though to be fair eMusic has (Chris McBride is awesome).

If last.fm or eMusic wants to become a lot more effective its time to get busy with blogs.

And please tell me- why are last week’s charts still out of date?

  1. I only started using last.fm a couple weeks ago–it gave me a batch of recommendations once and that was it. Don’t know what’s going on with it, meanwhile, I’m listening to Pandora but with the music scrobbled through last.fm just in case it ever decides to recommend something to me again.

  2. Yeah, happens sometimes. Sunday seems to be the update day, usually, but sometimes, they just miss it. My charts didn’t yet update for the week either, despite the fact that I saw the tracks scroll by this week. But ya gotta look at the bright side, James. The net result is, there’s still no Kylie Minogue in the charts — surely that’s a good thing? 😉 And, BTW, did you notice that one of the new people has Celine Dion in their playlist? Shudder.

    Of course we do! 😉

We’ve been meaning to set up a company blog for ages, and will probably do so over the holidays. In the meantime, there are lots of ways we communicate / ways to see what’s up at Last.fm:

    * The Team page features an aggregation of recent staff blogs (scroll down):
    http://www.last.fm/about/team/

    * We’re always active on our extremely busy site forums:
    http://www.last.fm/forum/

    * Or come chat to us on the Audioscrobbler IRC channel:
    Server: irc.audioscrobbler.com
    Room: #audioscrobbler

The charts issue this week isn’t my department, but suffice it to say there were some tech hiccups and we’re working to resolve them asap. Hang in there!

    Thanks for your kind words,
    -Matt
