Presentation: Your Ecosystem, Now and the Future

Here’s a generized version of the presentation I gave at the Pervasive ISV round table a couple weeks ago. It covers 4 “trends” and discusses how they apply to people who’re developing software, i.e., how these trends can make their customers and end-users rock. The focus, of course, is on databases, which comes through the most in the OSS and free DB slides.

It’s light on text, so it doesn’t stand too well on it’s own. There’s a crap-load of back-up slides as well. If you’re interested in more detail, or (even better!) have something to add or errors to point out, send me an email or contact me.

  1. Wish I saw this presentation. As you know from our conversation at J1 OSS Biz models go round and round in my head all the time! You don’t by any chance have audio or video from this presentation do you?

Although the slides don’t give you the full picture, did you discuss different OSS models? Such dual licensing like MySQL or eZ Sytems does vs just service and consulting revenues? I’d be really curious to see how they compare in terms of profitibability and rev $/employee and that sort of thing.
